Inside Scoop
Brittany Flocken hails from a galaxy not so far away in the lush lands of Dallas, TX. Picking up one of her mother's SLR cameras at an early age, she developed a deep love for candid photographs that transcended the test of time and earned her a bachelor of arts from the University of North Texas. Currently, she is hard at work to earn her master's degree from the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism. She hopes to combine her passion for creativity and branding with her photography skills to produce inspirational advertising for all you propaganda nuts out there in the airline business. Her past works include wedding and sports pieces as well as an award-winning action shot for a 2006 Neighbors Sports Action Photo Contest. She is currently working on her 365 photo blog, Flocktography. She appreciates Alton Brown's Food Network show for its groovy camera angles and would drive away in a Volkswagen from one of William Bernbach's advertisements. Her lifetime heroes are her dog Buddy and the entire Peanuts gang. And although a calm and kindred spirit at heart, don't ask her to get rid of her addiction to backpacks or request that she eat the butt of her banana. She won't be very happy with you.

The rider is in the water and he swings from the boat tower and lands in the driver's seat and yells, "ready?" Alf Evans is not your typical minister or youth pastor. His beard is a bit scruffy and he's wearing Anarchy sunglasses and a t-shirt that reads, "in case of zombies."Evans began to learn how to water-ski from his Father at an early age. At the age of 13 he first started to slalom ski behind a 13ft tri-hull with a 50 horsepower outboard motor. Evans' love of water sports began to grow as one of his closest friends, Jamie Phillips, bought one of the first wakeboards, an O'brien Shredder. It wasn't long before Evans began to ride in competitions, until he suffered from a severe knee injury that kept him off the water for a few years. Shortly after receiving a B.A. in religious education from Missouri Baptist University, Evans served as a youth pastor and a worship minister in St. Louis for six years until God lead him to uproot his family and make a big move to Texas, not knowing the next adventure in store for them would be Wakeboard Church. Wakeboard Church was formed by a posting on one of the local wakeboarding forums; encouraging people to come out and learn to wakeboard while participating in a devotional on the water afterwards. Evans said, "I felt that God was leading me to form Wakeboard Church in order to be able to help others." Wakeboard Church became a way for Evans to learn how to put others into consideration first, something he admits he sometimes has a hard time doing.Evans never dreamed that it would catch on so quickly. Soon people were donating time and money to the organization and within the past five years, it has become Evans' full-time job. "God made me for this job, he is working on me personally," Evans said while talking about how Wakeboard Church came to be. Wakeboard Church is not just during the summer months when the lake is an enjoyable place to be, it's all year long. During the off-season, Evans hosts Wakeboard Church at his home in Grapevine, Texas. There are currently chapters at lake Austin, Grapevine, Lavon, Lewisville and Nebraska. Each chapter has a chapter leader. Evans is the current chapter leader for lake Lewisville. Depending on the weather and wind, you can find the lake Lewisville chapter out each Thursday afternoon until the sunsets.Evans hopes to continue growing Wakeboard Church, across the country and possibly to other countries as well. Evans and his family are currently fundraising in hopes of being able to move to Cambodia by early next year to grow Wakeboard Church and fight sex trafficking. "I want to do whatever it is that God wants for me to do," Evans says about picking up and moving to Cambodia for at least two years. "I want Jesus to just show up and people to go, oh, ok wow," Evans said as he was explaining his role in Wakeboard Church and trying to help people find God if they choose to. Life is constantly changing for him as he tries to go where God leads him. Evans remains passionately diligent to the ministry along with the continual support from his wife Kelly, his son Trey and his daughter Shafer.

The Rebirth of the Tomato!
Arriving into Sanger from I35 North you'll see a small billboard on your left featuring the Tomato logo and the words, "The Legend of Fry Street Lives on!" After seeing this sign the mouthwatering for the pizza that had been missing for nearly four years began.Any Alumni of The University of North Texas will tell you that, Denton holds a warm feeling in their heart, like going home and reliving all the good memories. However, since 2007 there has been one thing missing from good old Denton, The Tomato. The Tomato, previously known as, The Flying Tomato has been a Denton staple for deep-dish pizza, subs and salads on Fry Street since 1985, until they were forced out of business and the building was burned down shortly after. The Denton community has been encouraging the Slusarski family to reopen The Tomato ever since it was forced to close its doors. Finally, the day of the rebirth of The Tomato has arrived! The Tomato opened its doors for the first time in Sanger, on a lucky Friday the 13th of 2011. To be honest, their location in Sanger isn't the best location for them, as it's easy to drive right past the building without even seeing the sign in the window. Once you walk into the humble little establishment, you feel as though you are back in Denton.To place your order you walk up to what looks like it was once an old bar, the menu is written out on a white board and could be better organized, but luckily ordering a pizza isn't very complicated. The waiter was exceptionally friendly and personable and checked several times to see if drink refills were needed. After sitting down you might notice that many of the tables and chairs looked familiar, perhaps donated from classrooms by UNT and TWU, as they looked outdated and almost misplaced in their new home of such nostalgic value. First thing to be served was the garlic bread. You can choose from cheese, ranch or marinara sauce to come with your bread, the cheese sauce surprisingly goes well. Their garlic bread arrives to the table fresh from the oven and hot to the touch for the first few seconds. The bread is perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside, with the perfect balance of garlic and spices. Next to arrive was a large thin crust pepperoni and mushroom pizza. The pizza was cut perfectly into squares, something you don't find often. The only downside to this is that you dont get to enjoy the wonderful buttery crust with every slice. Overall, the pizza was just the way it used to be, the best in Denton. The amount of cheese and sauce was just right and it wasnt at all greasy or sloppy, which makes for a more enjoyable dinning experience. There is rumor that The Tomato might be able to also reopen in its original location on Fry Street in Denton, which would be a much better location for them to continue their business, as they are truly a Denton treasure. However it turns out, The Tomato is definitely back and hopefully here to stay.
